George Russell hoped with his move to Mercedes that he could fight with the top teams in 2022, but for now a serious battle with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari is too high a goal. However, the Briton has little to blame himself for when he looks at the current situation, as he tells Motorsportweek.com.
With two podium finishes and a fourth place in the championship, Russell is doing better than Lewis Hamilton for the time being. Moreover, after seven races, the driver still appears to be able to finish no lower than fifth position, already bringing in a lot of points for his team.
"I think given the pace of the car and given where we’ve been as a team, I’ve been reasonably pleased with how I’ve performed," he noted in the interview. "I think the results have been maximised. I don’t see many races where we could have achieved better results."

Russell hopes for improvements at Mercedes soon

Although Russell accepts the current situation, he thinks it is important for Mercedes to make steps quickly. The Briton is only too eager to compete with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. According to the talent, however, there is nothing left for him but to get everything out of his car every race and wait patiently.
