George Russell will be given a five-place grid penalty at the Mexican Grand Prix. The British driver will have to change his gearbox this weekend, which will cost him places on the grid.
The driver of Williams had problems with his gearbox during the second free practice. Only when the gearbox has lasted at least six races or the driver did not finish the previous race, it is allowed in Formula 1 to change this part of the car. As a result Russell starts the race five places back.

Russell is combative

The Brit was disappointed with the incident after the first day of the Mexico GP, but quickly decided to turn the switch. Russell stressed in conversation with Motorsport.com that his chances are far from gone. He is therefore very confident for Sunday race.
"It's not ideal, but the points will be distributed on Sunday. The first practice session was an excellent session for us. The car felt good, I found a nice rhythm and we showed an excellent race pace. The latter will be crucial, as the thin air makes it very difficult for the cooling, brakes and power unit."
