Renault star Daniel Ricciardo could be facing a grid penalty for the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, as the FIA announced they're investigating whether the energy flow in the Aussie's RS19 breached technical rules.
The seven-time Grand Prix winner originally qualified in eighth but could be set back dramatically, RaceFans.net report. His MGU-K, the component that harvests energy under braking and converts it to extra power for the car, was allegedly exceeding the 120 kiloWatt limit that the FIA has set for any car. This basically means Ricciardo was getting more power than anyone else from his ERS.
Should the FIA decide to penalise Renault, it would mean Ricciardo would be excluded from qualifying. He'd start the Singapore Grand Prix from the back of the grid or even from the pitlane, in that case.
No conclusion has been reached as of yet in the investigation. This article will be updated as more information will be made available.
