The Hockenheimring had been part of the Formula 1 calendar for many years, but it has not hosted a Grand Prix since 2019. With new investors and the entry of Audi in 2026, hopes of a return of the German Grand Prix and Hockenheimring are back.
From 1970 to 2019, with some exceptions, the Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring was a regular event. After the Nürburgring was declared too dangerous by drivers, the race was moved to Hockenheim. Many F1 fans are still upset the race isn't on the calendar, as the iconic circuit has had to make way for races in the Middle East and America.

Will Formula 1 return to Germany?

Hopes of a Hockenheimring return are more positive than ever. According to German news agency DPA, private investors have bought around 75% of the circuit. The buyers, which include five medium-sized companies, invested €5.5 million for this deal.
The entry of German giant Audi in 2026 is also one of the reasons why Hockenheim may return. A combination of this and the new investment makes the return likely.

Regarding the circuit’s aspirations, the management of Hockenheimring GmbH shared, “As the management of Hockenheimring GmbH recently emphasized, everyone in charge at the Hockenheimring is striving for the return of Formula 1."
F1 fans will be hoping that their dreams of a German GP return can become a reality.
