Red Bull and Mercedes almost a second slower in qualifying than last week

Pirelli has chosen not to use the same tyres for the second Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend. The tyre supplier has instead gone for softer tyres. For example, last week's mediums have become the hard tyre this week.

Slower than last week

Soft tyres normally mean faster times, but none of that is true. No team was able to improve on last week's qualifying time. For some teams, it was 0.1 or 0.2 seconds, as was the case with Haas, AlphaTauri, Racing Point and Renault.
The traditional top three, on the other hand, lose a lot more time on their qualifying laps. Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are both exactly 0.851 seconds slower, while Ferrari lost a good second on their time last week. It seems that the heat in Northamptonshire plays an important role in the slower lap times.
