Kimi Raikkonen says that he expected Red Bull to be ahead of Ferrari in the build up to today’s Monaco Grand Prix.
Daniel Ricciardo has been untouchable all weekend, leading all three practice sessions along with all three qualifying sessions, culminating in a stunning pole position.
Raikkonen, pole sitter here last year could only muster fourth position as he was four tenths off the Australian’s incredible pace. His pole position in Monte Carlo last year is his only since returning to the sport in 2012.
The Finn admitted that he had tyre problems in qualifying but conceded that Red Bull were just too good on the day.
“I think Red Bull has been in front here all weekend,” he said. “I think traditionally it has been a good track for them, and they think it’s a big surprise. But like I said earlier, if you have the right feeling here, then the lap time comes very easily.
