Sergio Perez insists he’s excited to be heading to Monaco, but will be throwing caution to the walls come Sunday afternoon. He knows the pressure he’ll be under and has proven he can challenge with the best on the track.
In 2016, Perez managed to get his Force India onto the podium despite struggling in his McLaren are a few years earlier. This will be his 8th Grand Prix weekend on the famous street circuit.
“I love everything about Monaco. It’s my favourite track and it’s one of the biggest races of the year,” Perez said.
“I always try to enjoy the week as much as possible. I try to soak up the special atmosphere and make the most of the opportunity to drive on this amazing circuit.”
Proving he knows the track inside out, Perez understands how the tight corners and close barriers throw up challenges.

“Every lap you are under pressure. There is no change to relax. You need to build up your speed, build up your confidence and be careful not to overstep the limit.”
The 28-year-old has only made it into Q3 twice this season. He knows if he wants to stand a chance of returning to the podium, he’s going to have to make sure he peaks in qualifying.
“Qualifying in Monaco is the most important session of the year.
“I usually say that qualifying is 99% of the weekend because overtaking on Sunday is very difficult.
