Sergio Perez believes the struggles that Verstappen is experiencing this year are similar to those the Spanish driver faced at McLaren.
Perez spent 1 season at McLaren having replaced Lewis Hamilton.
“My time at McLaren hurt me,” Perez said. “I made too many mistakes because I was impatient, I was frustrated,” he told Speed Week.
“I think Max has just been too impatient in the last races and I can understand that well. His car is not as good as he hoped, he pushed too hard, he lost a victory in China.”
Sergio went on to say that Ricciardo’s big win in China made it harder and created bigger frustrations to grow on the Dutchman’s side of the garage.
“I’m convinced that it was a big blow for Max to see Daniel win in Shanghai.
“But I think Verstappen is a smart guy. He will have noticed what is happening and become an even better driver.”
Verstappen has faced some tough criticism over the past 4 races, which could potentially make it even harder for him. He needs to sit down and talk to someone before the damage gets even worse and begins to snowball.
