Oscar Piastri is taking his new role as Formula 1 championship leader in stride, maintaining a calm and focused approach despite being in the thick of his first title battle. The McLaren driver currently holds a 22-point advantage over teammate Lando Norris following a dramatic Canadian Grand Prix, where Norris retired after a collision between the two. Although Piastri finished fourth in Montreal and missed out on a podium,
the result extended his lead at the top of the standings — a significant feat in just his third season in the sport. But rather than being overwhelmed by the spotlight, the 23-year-old insists he's simply enjoying the experience.
“I’m not looking at it as my one chance,” Piastri told the media. “Obviously I don’t know that, but I don’t think there’s any use in putting extra pressure on yourself and thinking it’s do or die.”
He continued: “I’m still very early in my career, and obviously it’s a great opportunity, but I’ll just try and win as many races as I can. And hopefully it makes the championship look quite good at the end.”

Piastri also underlined the importance of maintaining balance outside of the sport. “You need time away from F1. Otherwise it can get pretty draining pretty quickly,” he added.
Reflecting on his preparation, the Australian believes he has already found what works best for him. “I’ve learned the lessons already on how I perform my best and how I come to each weekend fresh,” he said. “It’s quite fun trying to win races and fight for a championship. I’m just trying to go out there and do my best — now that just means trying to win instead of just scoring points.”
