Ocon reacts to contract news: 'I'm fully at Alpine'

The future of Esteban Ocon in Formula 1 is assured for the time being. On wednesday it was announced that the Frenchman has signed a three year contract with his current team Alpine. Currently Ocon is doing well in his second year with the team and he is not far behind teammate and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

Prior to the French Grand Prix Ocon reacted to the contract news. The Alpine driver indicated to be happy that there is certainty about his future and that he is happy with his team. "Fantastic news," he stated at the press conference among other things to Formel1.de. "I feel well integrated in the team. We work well together and have a good chance next year. It's the perfect place for me."

Ocon cannot deny that he still has contacts with Mercedes, but states that his focus is towards his current team. "I am fully with Alpine, but there are still links with Mercedes. However, there will be no collaboration with the Mercedes team."

The Frenchman is currently 12th in the world championship with 12 points. With that, he has one point less than teammate Fernando Alonso, who can be found in eleventh place. The difference between Ocon and number ten Daniel Ricciardo is 14 points.
