Mazepin scores: third in Asian Le Mans debut

Nikita Mazepin is back in motor racing and immediately has some success: last weekend, he and his team finished third in the Asian Le Mans season opener in Dubai.

The Russian competes in the LMP2 class of the Asian Le Mans branch. The weekend in Dubai consisted of two races. Mazepin and teammates Neel Jani and Goncalo Gomes thus managed third place in the first race, in the second race they had to make do with a sixth place. This places the trio fifth in the overall standings.

Mazepin had to leave Formula 1 last year following the war in Ukraine and his father's connections with Vladimir Putin. Haas, for which the Russian was driving at the time, also had to say goodbye to Dmitri Mazepin's Uralkali as its main sponsor. For the next two Asian Le Mans races, young Mazepin will find himself on familiar F1 territory: the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
