Max Verstappen's and Oscar Piastri's lap 1 turn 1 incident at Jeddah ended up defining the race in favor of the McLaren driver. Nico Hulkenberg, however, sees things differently from how the Stewards judged them.
Speaking during the Miami Grand Prix's FIA driver's press conference, Hulkenberg made emphasis on the level of intensity the on-track tussle between Verstappen and Piastri had.
"Well, I think these guys are fighting for the championship. That’s what it looks like right now, and probably that will continue like this."

'These things are a part of racing'

Now, whether the incident between the two required the Stewards' intervention, Hulkenberg, ultimately disagrees.
"It’s lap one action, Turn 1 – you come in with quite high speed even though it's not the longest of runs. So for me personally, I think it's part of racing and these kind of things just happen."
In the end, Hulkenberg notes, when fighting for a title, you have to go to the absolute limit.
"There are no gifts when you fight for a championship, and in racing in general," the German driver concluded.

When asked, if their thoughts on the matter were similar to that of Hulkenberg's, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell answered affirmatively.
