After increasingly strong rumours in recent weeks,
Ferrari have finally announced that
Mattia Binotto will indeed leave the team at the end of this year. The Italian team's drivers have thanked the team boss for the past few years, including
Carlos Sainz.
After numerous mistakes,
Ferrari had to watch as
Red Bull Racing won the world title in dominant fashion. Therefore, it was no secret that the top team from Maranello needed some changes towards the top.
Ferrari haven't confirmed who will replace Binotto.
Fred Vasseur is said to be the big favourite for the position as a close acquaintance of
Charles Leclerc and experienced Alfa Romeo team boss.
Sainz thanks Binotto
Leclerc and reserve driver
Antonio Giovinazzi have thanked Binotto on their
social media for all his efforts. Sainz also came up with a message to his team boss on
Twitter:
"Grazie Mattia. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside you to push the team and ourselves forward through thick and thin. Thanks for the great memories and moments we shared in and out of a racing track and all the best in your future endeavors!", the Spaniard says.
