Mekies responds to replacing Horner at Red Bull Racing
Mekies thus says goodbye to
Racing Bulls, where he was appointed as team principal one and a half years ago. He was appointed after Franz Tost left the team, which was then called AlphaTauri. On Wednesday, he got promoted to Red Bull's main team.
Meanwhile,
Horner was forced to leave Red Bull Racing after a turbulent period. More than twenty years ago, the Brit was appointed as team principal, but he will no longer fulfill that role. In his farewell speech, the Briton was quite emotional.
Mekies is well aware that he will be taking over Horner's role, as he stated: "Together we will achieve great results, building on the incredible legacy that Christian Horner has left over his twenty years as team principal."
For now, Mekies is
Max Verstappen's team principal. With Horner's departure, one thing the Dutchman and his entourage hoped for has been fulfilled. Yet, it is still not certain that the Red Bull Racing driver will stay with the team in 2026. The performance must also improve, especially looking ahead to 2026. Should this not happen, a departure is still not ruled out.
