Montoya about Norris: 'He proved that he can do it'

The Russian Grand Prix was a weekend full of emotions for Lando Norris. The McLaren driver managed to get pole position and it looked like he was going to win his first GP, but the rain at the end of the race shattered this dream for the young driver and the British stable.
Former Formula 1 driver and Indy 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya believes Norris will still gain a lot of confidence after this weekend despite the pain. "It's crazy, because I know how disappointed he is, but if you look at the big picture, he did lead a GP," Montoya told Motorsport.com. "Yes, you didn't win it, but you've been on the podium, you led most of the race and you didn't make any mistakes. In hindsight, 90% of the grid would have loved to have done what Lando did that day. He proved he can do it, that's the important thing."

McLaren partly responsible

Montoya does admit that this missed opportunity was not solely down to the 21-year-old driver. He believes the team also played a part but also knows that they will start making better decisions when they are more used to competing for wins.
"I think it's really good. Daniel is also doing really well and getting stronger with the car, which is good to see," Montoya said.
