Monaco gives green light for circuit construction

Due to the coronavirus crisis, the 2020 Formula One calendar was thrown into disarray. Several countries and circuits were skipped and instead Formula 1 visited 'new' locations. One of the circuits dropped in 2020 was the one on the streets of Monaco, but this year the iconic Grand Prix is back on the calendar. That it will take place is a certainty, which is once again confirmed by the start of the build-up.

The government of the mini-state has given the green light to the Automobile Club de Monaco to start work, writes Motorsportweek.com. This in the run-up to the Grand Prix that will be held on 23 May later this year. The work will start next Monday, which seems a bit early, but it has to deal with other events.

To make up for missing races in 2020, a historic event will take place on 25 April followed by Formula E on 9 May. This historic event will take place earlier than usual and therefore the organisation will also start the construction earlier. This means that they will prepare the infrastructure, both for the circuit and the access roads.

With the start of these works, everything will be ready in time for Formula 1 to arrive in three months time.
