Mercedes technical director James Allison experienced mixed emotions after the chequered flag on Sunday afternoon. The team took their first win of 2018 but Valtteri Bottas experienced heartbreak at the death.
Allison was happy for Lewis but sad for Valtteri.
“After three races where we had opportunities to win that we did not take. It’s great to have a victory come our way.”
“I am pleased for Lewis as I am sad for Valtteri. Both drivers delivered fine performances.
“But it was a cruel blow to have the prospect of a one-two finish dangled in front of us and then whisked away at the last.”
Mercedes now lead the constructors' championship after a difficult start and will look to take the positives from Baku into the remaining races this season.
“We delivered quick pit stops and excellent strategy decisions - in what is shaping up to be a dramatic and very memorable season.”
