Gunther Steiner has defended his teams unexpectedly poor start to the season and believes that despite sitting eighth in the Constructors standings, they are the “fourth of fifth” quickest car.
Haas only have 11 points this year and are way off the pace in the battle for fourth place, which is currently led by McLaren on 36.
Both the team and drivers have been guilty of throwing points away this season. In Australia, the infamous pit stop debacle led to both drivers retiring from fourth and fifth and recently in Baku,
Romain Grosjean crashed under the safety car, losing out on a strong points haul.
The Frenchman is yet to score a point this season in what is the worst start to an F1 season in his career.
Steiner however, believes the team shouldn’t be worried, saying: “The potential is there that we get some more (points) because the car is constantly at a good level, even when the other teams are bringing upgrades.
“We were fast on five race tracks (including Barcelona) which is a quarter of the season.
“We are always between the fourth and fifth fastest car over the weekend, we just have the second least points at the moment.”
