Mercedes picks up extra kilometres in Bahrain after disappointing winter test

Mercedes have had a difficult winter test in Bahrain, but the team are not going back to the factory just yet. In Bahrain the team will have another day of filming and they will clock up another 100 kilometres.

For Mercedes the winter test in Bahrain did not go as hoped. Whilst Mercedes have dominated Formula 1 for the last seven years, this was not reflected in the winter test prior to the 2021 Formula 1 season. Mercedes drove the least number of laps, and now have to make up for that.

Mercedes have planned a film day after the winter test. Formel1.de. The Germans will do a 100 kilometre film day in Bahrain on Tuesday, during which they will have to use Pirelli's demo tyres. The filming day was already planned for after the winter test and Mercedes were criticised for that.

Whilst most teams did a film day prior to the winter test, Mercedes skipped it. The problems that were encountered on the first day of testing in Bahrain could have been avoided with a film day according to many. Where other teams already did their installation rounds, Mercedes only found out about the problems now. In Bahrain Mercedes will hope to use the extra 100 kilometres to understand the problems of the winter test.
