'Mercedes have gone extreme with that'

The teams presented their new cars for 2022 in recent weeks. Due to the new regulations in Formula 1, the cars look quite different than in recent years, so surprises are lurking. Mercedes, however, is not sitting still at all.
Whereas Mercedes was by far the best since the introduction of the hybrid engine in 2014, Red Bull Racing managed to fight its way into the title race and even win in 2021. Next season, however, everything could be different, as the new rules give teams the freedom to use their creativity and surprise.

Mercedes shows potential with new car

Several teams showed in February what they want to race next month in Bahrain, but others decided to keep their cards close to their chests for the time being. The introduction of Red Bull Racing's car was not clear enough to know how the team stands compared to its competitors. Mercedes showed a little more.
"Mercedes have gone extreme with their long and narrow sidepod layout," judge Mark Hughes and Giorgio Piola on Formula One's official website. "The designs will evolve and be developed throughout the season and, with pre-season running next up in Barcelona, we'll soon see what every team has decided to bring to take on the new era of F1."
