Coming into 2026, Mercedes may have the opportunity to surpass Ferrari as the engine with the most victories. The most victories in
F1 history have come from
Ferrari engines, with the Italian manufacturer powering themselves and Toro Rosso back at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix, to 249 Grand Prix victories overall.
Mercedes is just behind as the second-most successful power unit, powering themselves and various other teams like McLaren, Brawn GP and Racing Point. The German manufacturer currently sits at 238 Grand Prix victories, just 11 race wins behind
Ferrari.

Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are particularly two pivotal figures that play a fundamental role in these accolades, with Schumacher taking 72 Grand Prix victories with
Ferrari, and Hamilton taking all 104 Grand Prix victories with a Mercedes power unit, scoring 21 victories with McLaren Mercedes, and a further 84 wins with the main Mercedes squad.
At
Ferrari, other prominent champions contributed significant victories that help to boost their victory record, particularly: Niki Lauda - with 15 wins, Sebastian Vettel - with 14 wins, Alberto Ascari - with 13 wins, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa with 11 wins each, and Kimi Raikkonen with 10 wins.
However, in recent history, despite impressive driver line-ups, like Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen from 2015-2018, and Fernando Alonso with Felipe Massa from 2010-2013 - The Scuderia have been unable to produce any world champions since Kimi Raikkonen back in 2007, where the Finn won the championship by just a single point.

Mercedes on the other hand, have scored 238 victories featuring their power unit. This figure is particularly assisted by McLaren, who have taken 96 wins whilst powered by Mercedes during multiple stints using Mercedes engines.
The main Mercedes squad has taken 131 Grand Prix victories throughout history, with significant contributions from Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jenson Button and Mika Hakkinen.
In 2026, Mercedes need 12 victories to outscore
Ferrari as the most successful power unit in terms of Grand Prix victories. The German manufacturer does give power units to McLaren currently, with the Woking-based squad winning the Constructors' championship for the past two seasons.
With two Mercedes-powered teams suspected to be at the front of the field, it is likely that the German manufacturer will surpass
Ferrari, unless the Italian team have
produced race-winning machinery this year. However, they were not quite able to do this last season, with their last win coming at the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.
