Daniel Ricciardo drove on Valtteri Bottas ' rear tyre at the first corner of the Mexican Grand Prix. The race of both drivers was as good as over and no points were scored. Race director Michael Masi explains why he took no further action.

Masi had little to say

Who was the guilty party in the incident became unclear during and after the race. Both drivers could continue the race, but there were no points in it. Maybe the punishment was already done with that.
Motorsport.com asked race director Masi about the incident and asked for clarification. Masi: I didn't look at the incident because I was busy starting the race. I did ask the race commissioners to look into it quickly. They decided that no investigation was necessary."

Investigation was not necessary

With little else going wrong at the start, you would think Masi would have been looking at the big incident at the first corner. Probably the Australian was mainly paying attention to the other drivers who had to make themselves safe through the smoke screen.
"The race commissioners looked at it quickly," Masi continued. "I can't force them to do anything about it. I can only ask them to take another look at something. They did, and that's what I usually do. I can't instruct them."
