Marko sees opportunity in Hamilton's penalty: "Overtaking is not easy here"

Mercedes announced on Friday that Lewis Hamilton will incur a ten-place grid penalty for the Turkish Grand Prix, due to the replacement of his power unit's combustion engine. For Red Bull Racing, that could provide opportunities to strike a blow, according to Helmut Marko.

Marko expects Hamilton to benefit from grid penalty

Marko thinks the grid penalty will play into Red Bull's hands. "It's only ten places because the turbo and things like that haven't changed," he explained to ServusTV. "But if you assume he is on pole, he will still start eleventh."
He continues: "And on the track overtaking is not that easy either, so it should play into our hands," Marko explained. However, the Red Bulls' pace still leaves something to be desired. "I hope we are fast enough to cross the finish line first", the Austrian concluded.
In Friday's practice sessions Red Bull clearly had problems finding the right set-up. Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez struggled in the second free practice session, which means there's work to be done for the Austrian team.
