Max Verstappen had already said it in Bahrain, and now Helmut Marko has come to the same conclusion: a world title for Max Verstappen in 2025 is no longer realistic.
"Inferior", Helmut Marko began when GPblog asked him for the verdict after the Hungarian Grand Prix. "I think the one-stop strategy would have been better, as overtaking was very difficult. Fifth or sixth would have been possible, but the speed was rather funny. He was doing lap times of the leaders, but I believe we know where it went wrong."
According to Marko, the team struggled to get the tyres under control—an issue he believes can be resolved going forward. The 82-year-old insisted the car doesn’t have a fundamental flaw and that the problems seen in Hungary were isolated to this weekend.

Marko gives up the battle for the world title

Marko had been Red Bull Racing’s most optimistic voice all season. While Verstappen declared after Bahrain that he was only competing in the championship and not fighting for the title, Marko continued to insist otherwise. But after scoring just two points in Hungary, his stance has changed.
When asked by GPblog if the world title is still possible, Marko resolutely stated: "It's impossible, that's clear." Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen heads into the is still under pressure from teammate Lando Norris, whose recent victory witnessed him cut the gap between them to just seven points.
