Before the Hungarian GP, Ferrari announced that Frederic Vasseur has extended his contract with the team. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is not competing for the title with his current car. After the news about Vasseur, Leclerc was asked how much his team boss has convinced him that he will get a car that can compete for a title. After competing for the constructors' title towards the end of the campaign, Ferrari is behind McLaren, and both Charles Leclerc and
Lewis Hamilton are yet to win a Grand Prix.
The Monegasque driver could step on the podium on some occasions, while the seven-time world champion won the Scuderia's first ever Sprint in China.
Leclerc keeps faith in Ferrari
A title is also far out of sight in 2025. Asked whether Vasseur has convinced him that he will soon get a good car, Leclerc replied: "Fred is definitely part of it, but the biggest part is to see how the team works. I'm sure we are working in the right direction."
"Next year will be a big turning point for us as it will be a new era of cars. Whenever you start a new era, if you are not starting it on the right foot, it's always more difficult to come back because other teams are also pushing for upgrades. To close the gap is very difficult."
He concluded: "We'll have to start that on the right foot and then we'll see. For now, I'm fully dedicated to try and make Ferrari great again and to win races again."
Charles Leclerc after his pole position in Hungary
Leclerc is currently fifth in the championship, with a total of 151 points. This puts him 42 points ahead of Hamilton. The Monegasque also still has the opportunity to move up. He is only 19 points behind
George Russell, who is currently in fourth place.
