Leclerc opens up about his family: 'My mother is very worried'

Charles Leclerc has revealed that his mother has had a hard time with his job as a Formula One driver. The sport will always be dangerous, even if safety has improved considerably in recent years.

Jules Bianchi was a close friend of Leclerc's family and the Monegasque's godfather. The French driver passed away after a crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. His mother has sometimes had a hard time dealing with her son's job after the incident.

"My mother is very worried. I don't know what to say to her, apart from the fact that I love my job. There is nothing in particular that I can add to make her feel better", Leclerc is quoted by Sky Sports Italy.

"I won't tell her I will be careful because that would be a lie. In any case, I will do my best. You know: it's a dangerous sport. Over the years it has become much safer, but it will always be an activity where there are risks, but she knows I am the happiest man in the world when I am in the car", says Ferrari driver.

Leclerc joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2016 and has officially driven for the Italian team in F1 since 2019. Bianchi was the first official recruit to the Ferrari Academy when it was formed in 2009. He was expected to have taken place in Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari seat.
