Ferrari started the weekend in Melbourne well. Charles Leclerc was first in free practice two, followed by Max Verstappen in second place and Carlos Sainz in third. However, the Monegasque told Sky Sports that he does not want to cheer too early yet.
The season has started well for Ferrari. The Italian team seems to be the second-fastest team in the first few races. Red Bull Racing is still ahead, so a bid for the world title seems unrealistic for now.

Leclerc impresses in free practice sessions

However, during the first two free practice sessions in Australia, Ferrari showed good speed. In Melbourne, however, it is not always easy to overtake, so if Leclerc manages to take pole position, "then we win easily," the Monegasque said in a sarcastic tone.
He continues: "It was a track position race. But now we've got four DRS zones and a few fewer corners; it's easier to overtake. Especially when you have three or four-tenths in hand like Red Bull has. In qualifying, we will be closer I hope, but I think they still have the edge on us."

Leclerc does think he could possibly cause a surprise in qualifying by putting his car in pole position. In the race, he thinks it will be trickier, but: "Three, four-tenths are a lot and at the same time on a track like this where I believe tyre management will be a big thing and you can get it wrong quite easily if you make a small mistake then straight away we are in the game. So if that is the case, I hope we can take our first win here. It will be amazing."
