Lawsuit surrounding GP Las Vegas: 'They want to crush us'

The FIA proudly announced at the end of March that a Grand Prix would be held in Las Vegas starting in 2023. Although the news was met with much enthusiasm, businessmen Farid Shidfar and Chad Christensen think otherwise.

Both men say they have been doing their best to get Formula 1 to the American city for 11 years. In doing so, Shidfar and Christensen argue that years ago they signed an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone, the former CEO of Formula One, which stated that they could promote the race.

However, that apparently includes Liberty Media in 2023 who is the rights holder. Whereas Formula 1 claims that they never made any promises to the businessmen about the promotion, the gentlemen believe that they are right. Therefore, they are filing a lawsuit that will take place on February 7, 2023.

"When (Liberty Media) bought out Formula One, they never had any intention of speaking to us," Christensen states in conversation with Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Their way of speaking to us was to slap us with a lawsuit and push us out of the way. They want to crush us with their wallet." The race is scheduled for November 2023.
