Jos Verstappen no longer gives advice to Max: 'But tell him what I see'

Max Verstappen owes a lot to his father Jos. The now three-time world champion used to get a lot of help from the former Formula 1 driver. Meanwhile, that period is over, and Jos leaves it to Max, he told Motorsport-total.com.

From kart races in Italy to Max's first metres in a racing car: wherever his son went, Jos went too. Verstappen Sr. was always giving instructions on how Max could improve. He sometimes lashed out the moment he made a silly mistake. Ultimately, it made Max the driver he is today.

The days of instructions are over, as Max now has more world championships behind his name than the number of times Jos was on the podium. Nevertheless, Verstappen Sr. still talks to his son about actions on the track: "I tell him what I see. For example, if I see him make an action that I think he went over the limit, I talk to him about it. That's a good thing between us: we are very honest with each other. And Max is always straightforward with such things."
