Isola pleased with Tyre performance in Baku

Maro Isola was happy to see a range of different strategies used during the race on the Baku City Circuit. Ultrasoft, Supersoft and soft were the tyres available to drivers. All three were used by race winner Lewis Hamilton.

The safety car could have been a factor which enabled this to happen, but it does prove the range of tyres offer a difference in performance

“It was interesting to see all three compounds used extensively during the race, with varying strategies for each driver,” said Isola.

The conditions weren’t perfect for drivers. The track was continuously losing temperature, and during the safety car period, drivers had work hard to keep heat in tyres.

This proved too tricky for Grosjean who went ploughing into the wall whilst weaving.

Isola noticed this and said: “With the cool conditions, long straight, and yellow flag plus safety car interruptions, maintaining tyre temperature was a challenge, particularly at restarts.”

This is exactly what the majority of fans would like to see, as it makes racing more of a challenge for the individuals.
