It appears McLaren may be returning to Indycar, after team officials were spotted at last weekend’s Indianapolis Grand Prix.
McLaren previously competed in Indycar in the 1970s, racking up two championship successes and three prestigious Indy 500 wins.
Its name disappeared from after a disappointing 1979 F1 season but returned to back Fernando Alonso in last year’s Indy 500.
The Spaniard was competitive but ultimately had to retire with engine problems, an unfortunate reoccurrence during his 2017.
Alonso has suggested he will return to Indy 500 as he chases the triple corwn of motorsport, by winning the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500 and Le Mans. He is set to race at Le Mans this season.

On the potential of a McLaren return, Andretti Autosport said: “We think McLaren would be a valuable addition to the Indycar paddock. Our partnership for the 2017 Indy 500 proved to be successful and we would welcome the opportunity to work with them again.
“As for McLaren’s 2019 plans, that is a question best directed to McLaren.”
