Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton reminded fans of their past rivalry as they had a brief moment during the Hungarian Grand Prix race. The pair, who were locked in a world championship battle throughout the 2021 season, came close to making contact on lap 30 of the Budapest race. Hamilton, who had started the Grand Prix on the hard compound tyres with the hope of going long, largely witnessed his tyre strategy fail to come to fruition. However, while Hamilton continued to try to make up places, Verstappen, who had pitted for the hard compound tyres on lap 18, attempted an overtake on him.
The move by the
Red Bull Racing driver would linger on for a few corners before Hamilton eventually bailed out of what initially appeared to be him defending into Turn 4. Hamilton, however, went off the track during the incident—an incident that was noted by Race Control.
Hamilton complains over radio
Prior to the incident with Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton had aired his frustration over the radio to the
Ferrari pit wall. The British driver detailed how he felt like a sitting duck as he continued to await several of the drivers ahead of him to make a pit stop.
Hamilton, who boasts the record of being the most successful driver around the Hungaroring circuit, started the Grand Prix in 12th place and finished also in 12th.
