Christian Horner's lawyers are undoubtedly busy with Red Bull GmbH to negotiate the severance package for the Brit. Horner is aiming for full payment of his salary - reportedly around fifty million dollars. But Red Bull is not willing to give him the full amount.
Currently, he is officially on leave of absence, which means he is employed by the Austrian energy drinks giant and thus still receiving his salary. Normally, this would start the process towards terminating the employment contract. Without much imagination, it can be assumed that this could take some time.

Horner wants the full payout from Red Bull

It is speculation how much Horner is to receive as a severance package, but he himself hopes for his full, remaining salary. Reportedly, the Brit earned ten million dollars per year, with a contract running until the end of 2030. However, it is hard to see Horner getting paid the full amount for the next five years. A sum approximately of half that amount would possibly be more agreeable for Red Bull.

What affects the amount of the severance package?

Undoubtedly, Red Bull's lawyers will claim that Horner did not perform well and that intervention was required - with financial consequences. Moreover, what happens in early '26 is yet to be seen. Then Red Bull will appear before the employment tribunal in a case filed by a former employee, who accused Horner of having displayed inappropriate behavior.
If Red Bull has to pay millions to the employee because of Horner's behavior, that could also affect the former team boss' severance package of.
Red Bull will also want to ensure that no salary needs to be paid to Horner once he starts working elsewhere.
