In the midst of the battle for the world title, there is also a sort of 'neighbourly squabble' going on between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. There is a lot of back and forth between the teams, while there are also strategic games going on behind the scenes.
Mercedes is trying to get Red Bull's flexible rear wing banned as soon as possible, and Red Bull is trying to empty Mercedes' workforce. Meanwhile, the top men of both teams are reacting back and forth to each other's statements in the media.

Mercedes finally has serious competition

Christian Horner thought it was about time the dominant Mercedes had some serious competition. "Toto has had it far too easy for the last seven years," he says in conversation with The New York Times. "It's about time he had something to do."
The Red Bull team boss is happy that there is a real fight in Formula 1 again. "I hope it goes all the way to the wire. That's what the fans want to see, and what they have been crying out for, although I don’t know if my nerves could take it," he continued.
