Honda declares successful partnership: 'That gave me true confidence'

Max Verstappen received the main prize for winning the world championship on Thursday night. Although this was largely due to the great talent of the Dutchman, Honda also played an important role. Masashi Yamamoto sees that as well.

Red Bull Racing only really started to move up the order of things when Honda started working with the team. While the Austrian team had its problems with Renault, the choice for Honda proved to be a good move.

Verstappen's performance has improved steadily in recent years, but it was only this season that he was really able to compete with Mercedes. It made for a very exciting season, in which Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton stayed close to each other until the final race. In the end, the Dutch driver pulled the longest straw.

Yamamoto had several great moments with Red Bull, he tells on the official Formula 1 website. Nevertheless, he makes a choice. "For me the first podium with Red Bull in Australia, the first race together," he states. "I was really happy that we could achieve such a result with them, and it was the result that gave me true confidence that it was the right decision and we can win together with this team."
