The porpoising problem was again a hotly debated topic during the weekend before the Canadian Grand Prix. Mercedes faced a lot of criticism, as the team's concerns were supposed to push the FIA to find a solution for them. However, according to Damon Hill, the bouncing could have serious long-term consequences.
"There was a little bit of suggestion that maybe they were complaining because they were suffering a bit more than anybody. It does seem that there is more noise coming from the drivers and other teams, and also the FIA who have been monitoring the vertical acceleration that these guys are subjected to, and also bottoming", Hill begins at Sky Sports.
"The problem is, could this have a long term effect? Similarly, in rugby and other sports, we’ve looked at how the athlete can have effects later in life. We don’t want to injure the drivers, so the FIA are taking it very seriously." The conversation about the porpoising issue will continue in the coming week after disagreements between the teams.

Possible long-term consequences of porpoising

Lewis Hamilton has said that he could have almost crashed during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. After the race, the Briton struggled to climb out of his car due to back pain. Among others, Olav Mol criticised the seven-time world champion for exaggerating the problem to make sure the FIA will fix it for Mercedes.

"The FIA can tell if they are actually telling the truth or not. We don’t know what maybe the long term effects are, maybe someone’s spine gets injured or their neck, or their brain even", ends the former Formula One driver.
