Mika Hakkinen enjoyed the way George Russell took victory in Brazil, he says in his column on Unibet. The Briton was finally able to go for victory with his car and managed to keep the competition behind him.
Not only did Russell manage to win the race on Sunday, but he also finished first in the sprint race a day earlier. As a result, the talented driver did good business for Mercedes fighting with Ferrari for second place in the constructors' championship.
"This feels like the first of many wins for George. He is at the right moment in his career, still only 24 and full of motivation," Hakkinen began. "He has had to wait until this weekend to have a competitive car again, but as soon as he had the right equipment he delivered the win."

Confidence in current qualities of Mercedes

The former Formula 1 driver then also has fine words to say for Mercedes. The team got off to a very rough start to the season and was unable to compete for the title with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari, but continued to work hard behind the scenes to develop the car.

"Their car was not working well at all during the first half of the season, but they never gave up and have developed it to the point where, in Brazil this weekend, it was very competitive That’s important for them but also for Formula 1 because it means that Mercedes has understood the issues with this year’s car and should be much stronger in 2023."
