Herbert after Horner's dismissal: 'The Verstappen family now has everything they wanted'

The team principal and CEO at Red Bull Racing is leaving after leading the team for twenty years, forced by circumstances. While some analysts are surprised, Johnny Herbert saw the dismissal coming.

Former Formula 1 driver and steward Herbert told a betting website: “I am not surprised that Horner was dismissed. With everything that happened when the news broke and with Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull, it was clear that changes were needed at some point.

“It took a while, but I think this decision is the right step for Red Bull. It will be difficult for Red Bull. Is this the beginning of a downward spiral for the team? I know Jos Verstappen wanted Christian gone, and now that has happened.”

In recent weeks, there has also been a lot of talk about a possible departure of Verstappen from Red Bull. Herbert is not yet convinced that Horner's dismissal is enough to keep the Dutchman at the team.

"It could take four years before the team is back in a good position, winning races again. The rumour mill is still turning regarding Max's switch to Mercedes next season. And I think this is another sign of Red Bull falling back.”

GPblog knows that a switch for Verstappen is still not out of the question. Although one of the wishes of the Dutchman and his entourage has been fulfilled with Horner's departure. Despite that, the Verstappen camp hopes to see an improvement soon, with an eye on 2026. If this does not happen, then a departure could still be possible.
