Marko's clear response to Verstappen's near crash with Russell in Qatar

Helmut Marko is not too worried about the incident between Max Verstappen and George Russell being investigated by the stewards. The Red Bull Racing advisor notes that Russell was not on a fast lap when he ran into Verstappen, which should make a difference in the FIA's investigation.

Verstappen himself already said he did not expect a punishment from the stewards after it was announced that he had to tell his side of the story. Russell was also expected at the FIA stewards' office at 23:15 local time. The Dutchman stressed that he tried to create a gap without hindering other drivers - both in front and behind him.

Marko endorsed the four-time world champion's words. "Everyone was trying to get the optimal warm-up phase for themselves. Max was aware of the situation, and from Russell, it was not quite clear whether he drove a fast lap or just a faster warm-up lap," the 81-year-old Austrian told the German branch of Sky Sports.

Former F1 driver and six-time Grand Prix winner Ralf Schumacher hopes it does not end in a penalty for Verstappen. "That is now under scrutiny, of course. If you can explain it clearly, then it should be OK. I hope nothing happens. It would be a shame after something like that. But if he drove in his way, then, of course, that is a logical consequence," the German driver said.
