Lewis Hamilton has only been on the podium twice in the past six races, whilst Max Verstappen has managed to win four times in the last five races. The Briton is therefore well aware that there are clear problems at Mercedes, problems he explained to SkySports.
"I indicated before the race that it is going to be very difficult to beat Max and of course it is frustrating to lose so much downforce on the back of the car and therefore second place. We lost a lot of points".
When Hamilton was asked what caused him to sustain that damage, he had no real answer. "I wasn't using more kerbs than the rest and I have no idea what happened. There is a lot of damage. I was in second place when it broke and up to that point it was an easy second place, but I didn't have the speed to keep up with the cars in front of me."
The next race is at Silverstone and Hamilton is already feeling worried. "We're really at a distance from them [Red Bull] and have a lot of work to do as well. We need all hands and I know they are already working hard. They've brought a lot of upgrades in the last few weeks and we haven't. So we need to find performance," Hamilton concluded.
