Hamilton impresses: 'That's why he's won so much'

Before Lewis Hamilton was told he had won the Belgian Grand Prix after all, the Briton was not to be enjoyed on the podium. Because his teammate George Russell had won from him on strategy, Hamilton was disappointed at Spa-Francorchamps with the crossing the finish line in second place. But according to former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers, this marks the Briton's winner's mentality.

On the podium and also in post-race interviews, Hamilton was not happy. The Briton indicated he also wanted to go for a one-stop but Mercedes decided to react to Charles Leclerc's stop with the Briton, while Russell was then allowed to go longer. After Russell provisionally won as his tyres survived, Hamilton was clearly disappointed. "So there you see that those kind of guys want to win and they can't stand losing. That's why they won so much," Lammers revealed in the NOS Formula 1 podcast.

"Hamilton smells that he can win and then afterwards he is just angry. That's just part of it," Lammers added.

In the end, Russell was disqualified because of a car that was too light. Car 63 was found to be only 1.5 kilos under the limit by the FIA. Hamilton eventually took his 105th career victory as a result.
