Lewis Hamilton is within touching distance of Michael Schumacher's elusive total of seven F1 world championships. The British driver won his sixth F1 world championship at the United States Grand Prix last weekend.
In a long interview for Mercedes themselves, Hamilton was asked about when he will retire. The 34-year-old turns 35 in January and has one more year left on his current contract. But it seems as if he'll stretch that in 2021 and beyond.
"Retire...? What...? No, nope I don't fancy retiring right now. It's a scary thought that one day, we athletes have to hang up and stop doing what we've loved our whole lives. I don't feel like I'm at my peak yet but I'm nearby, I feel energised. I feel like I can still run a marathon," Hamilton said.
"I really like the idea of an artist creating a masterpiece and what I do is an art form. I like the idea that I'm trying to create a masterpiece and it's still not finished yet. How I get to that point, I don't know but it's going to take a lot of hard work, dedication, focus, help from great people around me, but I know we can do more so we're going to keep pushing," Hamilton added.
