Hamilton: "It will most likely not be too exciting"

Lewis Hamilton is not expecting much from the new sprint qualifying races yet. On Thursday the rules for the sprint races were approved by the World Motor Sport Council and the first sprint race will be held on Saturday in Great Britain.

The sprint race on Saturday will determine the starting grid for the Grand Prix on Sunday. This race is only a third of the usual Grand Prix distance, so 17 laps will be run at Silverstone. The winner of the sprint race will receive three points in the championship in addition to pole position.

Hamilton is not very concerned with the new format in Formula 1. "I don't really have an opinion on that," the Mercedes driver revealed to Motorsport-Total.com. "We will wait and see. There's no point judging before we even start."

Hamilton, who holds the record for most pole positions ever in F1, doubts the sprint races will add much to the weekends: "Hopefully there will be a few overtaking manoeuvres, but it will most likely not be too exciting."
