Haas driver Romain Grosjean is the latest driver to get a post-race grid penalty after the American Grand Prix, as the Frenchman nailed Charles Leclerc's Sauber and retired, but the two penalty points he also got handed have put him dangerously close to suspension.
In a 12-month period, a driver is allowed 12 penalty points on his racing licence before being automatically suspended from a race. After his latest penalty, Grosjean has collected ten now, meaning that he'll have to be a good boy for the last three races of the season if he wants to keep playing.
The Frenchman locked up in the first lap of the race and then hit the Sauber of Leclerc, who could do nothing to avoid the collision. Grosjean damaged his Haas severely but managed to limp back to the pitlane. He didn't come back out though, and Leclerc too had to call it a day later on in the race as he suffered a lot of damage.
Grosjean has already apologized to Leclerc for his action, although he did claim he was driving in dirty air which supposedly caused him to lock up.
