The
Australian Grand Prix turned out to be a winner for
Carlos Sainz. The
Ferrari driver finished ahead of
Charles Leclerc and
Lando Norris.
Max Verstappen dropped out early on due to problems with his right-rear brake. Who will be the GPblog Driver of the Day? Vote in the poll below and discuss in the comments.
The RB20 has looked superior this season, but both Verstappen and
Sergio Perez have struggled already this weekend. Carlos Sainz seems to be in pole position for GPblog's prize, but there are also some other notable names in the top ten at the
Australian Grand Prix. For instance,
Lance Stroll finished sixth,
Yuki Tsunoda seventh and
Nico Hulkenberg and
Kevin Magnussen both scored points for Haas.
Only 19 drivers appeared at the start of the race in Melbourne. Earlier in the weekend,
Alexander Albon crashed into the wall.
Williams had not brought a replacement chassis so
Logan Sargeant was sacrificed. Albon eventually finished 11th. Out of 19 drivers, only 16 eventually crossed the finish line in one piece.
Besides Verstappen dropping out,
Lewis Hamilton' s engine also quit, causing him to retire prematurely. And if all was not enough for
Mercedes,
George Russell also crashed on the penultimate lap.
