German Grand Prix race organiser isn't confident about an F1 visit in 2020

Georg Seiler, the organiser of the German Grand Prix, isn't hopeful of a Formula 1 return to Hockenheim during the 2020 season. He reports in the German News agency DPA, that a follow-up event next season is very unlikely.

In the days before the British Grand Prix, fans of Silverstone were greeted with the news of a five-year contract extension which will see the Formula 1 circus continue to visit the venue until at least 2024. However, in the build-up to the German Grand Prix, it doesn't look like they'll be similar news.

"Liberty Media is constantly talking about the future. But in 2020 we probably don't have a German GP here," Seiler said.

“There should be 21 races on the calendar. With the arrival of Hanoi and Zandvoort it makes sense that races are dropped. As it looks now, it could be Barcelona or Mexico City, but we are also on that list. There would still be a chance through the back door, but I see few possibilities."

The German Grand Prix was Michael Schumacher's home race, as well as Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel's. It's one of the most popular events on the calendar for these reasons. Mick Schumacher is starting to come through the ranks and it was thought his popularity might help save the event.
