Gasly makes first metres for Alpine: "It was definitely emotional"

Pierre Gasly experienced it as an emotional moment when he stepped into Alpine for the first time during the Formula 1 test in Abu Dhabi. The Frenchman ended the test day with a fourth time.

Gasly completed his first session on behalf of Alpine during Pirelli's tyre test at the Yas Marina Circuit. He will compete for the team next year alongside Esteban Ocon, after Fernando Alonso left for Aston Martin. Gasly found it "very special" to cover the first metres with his new team.

The Frenchman speaks of a successful session, in which he was able to get used to the Alpine car for the first time. "It’s been really good," he told Formula1.com. "I must say it’s been an extremely smooth morning." He was able to complete the full programme and therefore ends the day feeling positive.

For Gasly, taking a seat in the Alpine for the first time was a special moment. "It was definitely emotional. In my mind, I am already starting the 2023 season, already working for next year. It was definitely very special," said Gasly, who has high expectations following his future team's successful year.
