Pierre Gasly qualified in ninth place for the
Portuguese Grand Prix. The Frenchman was satisfied with getting to Q3, as AlphaTauri has struggled with the track's characteristics all weekend.
Gasly experienced difficult qualifying
It was not unexpected for Gasly. When travelling to Portugal, the team already knew that the track would suit the AlphaTauri AT02 less than
Imola did. "I think since the start of the weekend we've been struggling," Gasly told
Sky Sports F1.
"We knew coming here based on the characteristics of the track that we would struggle a bit more and that is the case. So, in a way I am happy we made it to Q3 because it was clearly not easy with Alpine being a lot faster than usual," continued the Frenchman.
More trouble than in Imola and Bahrain
According to Gasly, the task now is to understand why things went a lot less in Portugal compared to previous. "I am disappointed with what we have in these conditions which is not as good as Imola and Bahrain. We have got to understand how we can be more competitive in these conditions," he added.
