Full Results | Leclerc tops FP1 in Mexico ahead of Antonelli

Charles Leclerc topped the opening practice session ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The Ferrari driver adjusted to the track and set the benchmark in the first session on Friday in Mexico.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli drove for Mercedes in FP1 last year and went second quickest, just ahead of German driver Nico Hulkenberg.

Oscar Piastri finished fourth for McLaren ahead of Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto with Arvid Lindblad in sixth place.

Esteban Ocon set the seventh quickest time ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon, rounding out the top 10.

With around half of the session to go, some drivers began to switch onto the soft tyres as the track began to grip up.

This move to the soft tyre meant Kimi Antonelli moved to the top spot in the session with a 1:18.4 before being beaten by Leclerc.

Isack Hadjar has been impressive at times for Racing Bulls, and he scored a maiden podium at the Dutch Grand Prix earlier this year.

The Frenchman led the way briefly in Mexico before his time was beaten by Haas driver and compatriot Esteban Ocon.

Leclerc set the pace in the opening stages for Ferrari but quickly dropped down to third behind Piastri and Ocon.

Frederik Vesti drove for Mercedes in the opening practice session of the weekend in Mexico and he was first onto the track.
