Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur is in favour of an another engine manufacturer joining Formula 1. From 2026, there will be 11 teams on the F1 grid, and Cadillac, the newcomers of the series, are already taking big steps towards becoming a factory team, something that may please the Frenchman.

Vasseur on a new engine manufacturer

"I think it's a new engine manufacturer for the future, and this is good. But we all have to keep in mind what's happened in the past. F1 is a cycle, like everywhere, and a couple of times in my life, F1 was flying, like 2006-07 or 2017-18. But at one stage, we only had two car manufacturers for the engine," Vasseur told GPblog and others.
The Ferrari team boss does think Cadillac can be of great value when they come into F1 in 2026: "If they are able to come with an engine, I think it's good for the F1. You never know about the future. You saw what happened to Alpine a couple of weeks ago. It means that this will be a boost."

Possible drivers for Cadillac

It remains to be seen which two drivers will appear at the start of the 2026 season on behalf of Cadillac. Colton Herta is one name that has been mentioned a lot for that year. Mario Andretti already revealed to GPblog that he is very keen on the 24-year-old American. Kyle Kirkwood also recently addressed a possible opportunity in Formula 1.
